You can walk through most of downtown using the Minneapolis Skyway system that runs above downtown, including the 775-foot IDS Center.

If you prefer the outdoors, just southwest of Minneapolis, walking trails connect a chain of lakes with five different shorelines. Public beaches, boating, biking, and special events like live music at the Lake Harriet Bandshell occur throughout the year. During the winter, the area offers some of the best cross-country ski trails in the city. Minnehaha Park is one of the oldest and most popular in Minneapolis. You can stroll through a pergola garden, dine at the Sea Salt Eatery, or enjoy a live show at the Minnehaha Bandstand. Saint Paul's Rice Park is gorgeous in winter, especially with festive holiday lights and ice skating!
Shopping is a must when in the Twin Cities. Why? Because it's home to the Mall of America. The mega-mall has over 520 shops, 50 restaurants, a putt-putt golf course, an aquarium, and an amusement park. If malls are not your thing, Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis boasts a large concentration of shops, restaurants, galleries, and public art displays alongside a well-manicured walkway. Saint Paul's Grand Avenue has a ton of eclectic shops and restaurants. You could spend a whole day here shopping and eating and never get bored!
The Twin Cities is becoming known as a culinary hotbed. Home to both nationally recognized chefs and homegrown chefs, the restaurants span multiple cuisines, neighborhoods, and price points. Al's in Dinkytown is great for breakfast, but be prepared to wait because it only seats 14 people - but the wait is worth it. In Saint Paul, Pizza Luce offers vegan and gluten-free pizzas and pizzas for the meat lover. Also, don't miss the iconic Mickey's Diner with a 1950s Americana vibe.
Summer is the peak of the tourism season with festivals and farmer's markets. Early fall is also a pleasant time to visit, especially with the changing leaves and comfortable temps. Winters can be on the frosty side, but there's still plenty to do and see in the Twin Cities.
