Sacramento's Best Bets
Discover this charming city on a budgetLos Angeles and San Francisco usually get all the attention, but many people don’t realize that Sacramento also has so much to offer. Our Regional Director of Brand Performance, Steven, showed us his favorite things about this city — from its rich gold mining history, to the best BBQ you can get around.
Big Breakfast, Small Bill
You won’t find a better way to start your day in Sacramento than at the Pancake Palace — it’s a buttery pancake and sweet french toast haven. Just a short drive from a Motel 6, stepping into this good ol’ American diner is like visiting the 70’s. With great service and even better homestyle cooking, this spot is great for a quick bite, or to savor and stay for a while.
Find New Favorites in Old Sacramento
“Old” may be in its name, but Old Sacramento is a thriving part of the city. Create an experience that goes beyond the ordinary waterfront. With unmatched views of the river, events and more — on the docks is where it rocks! Hungry? Great bites, like fresh fish & chips and clam chowder are scattered throughout the riverwalk.
If you’re hungry for a little history lesson, head to the Sacramento History Museum. For just 10 dollars, you’ll get a general history of the city, from its agricultural to an interactive exhibit of a gold mine — don’t forget your hard hat.
You’re Gonna Need A Couple Wet Napkins
Ready for some of the best lip smackin’, finger lickin’ BBQ around? Our lightkeeper, Steven, Regional Manager by day and BBQ Connoisseur by night, loves trying new places on the Open Road. He brought us to Sauced BBQ, the place he always goes back to — so you know it’s good.
If you’re looking for a meal on a budget, hit up happy hour from 3-6 p.m., Tuesday - Friday.
We All Scream For Vic’s
You can’t forget about dessert after a great meal. Treat yourself to a visit to Vic’s Ice Cream — a family owned shop who’s been slingin’ scoops since 1947. This classic parlor serves sandwiches, pies, cakes, fountain sodas and of course…ice cream in their famous homemade cones. Get your favorite flavor, take a seat at the bar and enjoy. Pro-tip: Order that extra scoop. You’re gonna want it.
Come Back For The Views
Before you end your day, head down to the waterfront and take in the views on top of the ferris wheel. If heights aren’t your thing, the carousel is a great way to feel like a kid again.
With all this just a short drive from a Motel 6, Sacramento is a great place to bring your partner, aunts, uncles, and even your four legged friends. So pack up the car, set your navigation, and we’ll get your room ready for you.
