Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
At Motel 6, a key element to our success is respecting the differences that each individual brings to the organization. We understand that in order to achieve excellence in our business, decisions must be made based on the widest range of perspectives and contributions from the widest range of employees. We strive to create a work environment that reflects the many different cultures, ideas, perspectives and experiences that represents the communities we serve.
In all that we do, we strive to exemplify our core values of innovation, performance, respect, trust and the spirit of conquest. At Motel 6, respect is the basis of all of our relationships.
We believe that promoting diversity makes our company stronger and smarter. To maintain a competitive advantage in the economy lodging segment, we understand that we have to be willing to think and act differently.
Embracing Diversity Starts Day One
We want all of our employees to understand the importance we place on diversity and inclusion. Since 1996, Motel 6 has provided diversity awareness education to positively impact the work environment and guest experience. Our diversity and inclusion training helps employees develop leadership skills and increase awareness about a variety of cultural, generational and social differences so that our colleagues can effectively interact with each other and our guests.
Career development is an important part of our human resources and diversity strategy. Since 2003, we have hosted a mentoring program for employees who are interested in managing their career and professional development. Selected protégés are partnered with a mentor for one year to work on achieving a variety of professional, organizational and personal goals.
Future Leaders in Hospitality Management
Motel 6 is concerned about creating and sustaining a diverse workforce today, and in the future. Developing a pipeline of diverse talent requires an investment and commitment to develop industry leaders of tomorrow. Recognizing that a college education often seems out of reach for first-generation college students, we created the G6 Hospitality Management Scholarship fund, which provides financial resources for qualified students with a passion for pursuing a career in the hotel industry. Endowment funds were established at Johnson & Wales University, Pennsylvania State University and the University of Houston.
Our commitment to diversity also extends to organizations that represent a broad spectrum of individuals so that we become part of the communities where we live and work. Our sponsorships and partnerships with non-profit and hospitality industry organizations allow us to strengthen our business and grow as a leader in the economy lodging segment.
Through active and engaged colleagues, Motel 6 has supported a wide variety of community and philanthropic organizations over the years, including:
- Feeding America
- Goodwill Industries
- Great Teddy Bear Round-Up
- Habitat for Humanity
- Meals on Wheels
- Make a Wish Foundation
- Salvation Army
- Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
- United Way
Diversity at Motel 6 is not only the right thing to do; it also makes good business sense.
